The Eight Immortals are a group of legendary "xian" in Chinese mythology. Each Immortal's power can be transferred to a tool of power that can give life or destroy evil. The Immortals are Immortal Woman He (He Xiangu), Royal Uncle Cao (Cao Guojiu), Iron-Crutch Li (Li Tieguai), Lan Caihe, Lü Dongbin (leader), Philosopher Han Xiang (Han Xiang Zi), Elder Zhang Guo (Zhang Guo Lao), and Zhongli Quan.

This one-of-a-kind work of art consists of a mixture of tiny gemstones, selected piece by piece to create a range of vivid real-life colors. For example, the clear blue sky consists of sapphires, brown and oranges tones of citrine, yellow of amber, red of garnet and ruby, green of peridot and emerald, and pink of garnet. The black and white colors of the bird wings and the greenish black of the floor are made of agate, onyx and white quartz with white jade.
